Scheveningen’s beachfront is 3 km long and lies between the pier, the harbour and the Boulevard. On sunny days, you can join the crowds to bask in the sunlight and enjoy the sand and the sea. Water sports, beach sailing, kite flying, fishing, hiking or simply relaxing: there’s something for everyone. Be sure to visit the buzzing outdoor terraces and cafés.
Scheveningen lies close to The Hague. Aside from the beachfront and the sea, the city has loads to offer. Lining the Boulevard, you will find a broad selection of shops, restaurants and nightlife haunts, including the well-known Crazy Pianos. Combine your trip to Scheveningen with a visit to the theatre, casino or cinema. If you still have energy after shopping till you drop and enjoying a brilliant evening out, be sure to visit the lighthouse, the former fisher folk’s dwellings and the old church.
Can’t wait to party? Almost weekly, special events can be found in and around Scheveningen. The most well-known is certainly Flag Day (‘Vlaggetjesdag’), celebrating of the first herring ( Hollandse Nieuwe) at Scheveningen harbour. Not to mention the annual International Fireworks Festival, ‘Schollenpop’ (free music festival), City Pier City Run, North Sea Regatta and International Kite Festival.
